Pretty much everything said in this thread is wrong. Let me clarify:
1. This is not a ripoff of EVE. Jumpgate was released 2 years *before* EVE, in 2001. Jumpgate:Evolution is a sequel, basically. Also, it has little in common with EVE, except the fact that both games have internet spaceships.
2. Codemasters is NOT developing this game, only publishing it. The game is being made by NetDevil, and yes they're poking CCP apparently. Last time I checked, the old Jumpgate had about 50 players online, so they have reasons to be jealous
The quest to destroy "Battlestar CCP" has begun. That being said, the last time NetDevil destroyed something, it was their own MMO, Auto Assault, R.I.P.
Ah finally someone in this thread that seems to know the history. Personally I can't believe Netdevil is going with codemasters. Remember back in 2001 when they had all those probs with their last publishers of Jumpgate in 3DO? I do not know why the would want to repeat that mistake again with their new sequel and another company.
...and yet Jumpgate came out 2 years AFTER what could be considered its source material: X - Beyond the Frontier (which in turn was probably sourced from somewhere else). Historical arguments are silly to this regard so its best to stay out of them. As for this new iteration, who knows as to its success? Ill admit I will take a look, but in the end it will just remind me of a MMO X3 which eve (sans flight physics) satisfies just fine right now. ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

God no, don't be silly. Until we get ship AI and the ability to control hundreds of ships, it won't even come close to X3. I would jump ship for an X3 online in a second.
(Except if it was pish of course )
See, this is what Im hoping planetary interaction turns out to be: some world-wide RTS thingie with a bit of brains and completely unnecessary toward winning Eve. I can dream~
But! Im glad someone else recognized the superior-ness of X3... that what Im thinking Jumpgate will be like, except made of fail. Now if only there will be an X4... but way bigger and easier to mod. ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |
